The World of Cameras Is Changing
Over the years, Vi Vante has grown from a passion project into a globally recognized brand within the photography community. What started from a genuine love for cameras, creativity, craftsmanship, and the culture surrounding photography became something much larger than I ever expected. For that, I’m grateful.
But the truth is, the camera world has changed dramatically.
The industry feels different now. Smaller. More commercialized. Less personal. Much of the passion and enthusiasm that once fueled photographers and creators has slowly shifted into endless consumer cycles, hype, and social media noise. Somewhere along the way, I found myself becoming increasingly disenfranchised with the direction of it all.
Because of that, I’ve decided to place Vi Vante into a total production pause.
I recently moved the website away from BigCommerce, a far more powerful enterprise platform, back to Squarespace — something simpler and easier for me to personally manage during this transition period. At this stage, I need less complexity in my life, not more.
To be transparent, I’ve seriously considered winding Vi Vante down completely.
I’ve supported this brand for many years largely with my own finances, time, energy, and creativity. While there have certainly been loyal supporters along the way, there has also been a surprising lack of appreciation and respect from parts of the community. Over time, that wears on you more than people realize.
At the same time, I’m launching and building other businesses that now require my full attention and focus. As priorities evolve, you begin asking yourself difficult questions:
What do I truly want to keep building?
Why am I building it?
And who am I really building it for?
I don’t have all those answers yet.
What I do know is that somewhere along the journey, I personally lost some of my passion for photography itself — and that’s something I’m actively trying to reconnect with. Not the business side. Not the gear race. Not the algorithms. Just the simple enjoyment of creating images again.
For now, I’m taking time to think carefully about the future of Vi Vante and what role, if any, it continues to play moving forward.
To everyone who has genuinely supported the brand over the years: thank you. It has meant more than you know.
Thanks for reading.
